Medevac off Southwest Pass
On Nov 3, the US Coast Guard medevaced a 66-year-old woman from the 'Brilliance of the Seas', about 92 miles offshore from Southwest Pass, Louisiana. At approximately 5:35 a.m. Coast Guard District Eight watchstanders had received a report from the cruise ship, equesting the medevac of the woman who was experiencing a medical emergency. Watchstanders coordinated the launch of a Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter aircrew to conduct the medevac. The aircrew arrived on-scene, hoisted the woman aboard, and transported her to awaiting emergency medical services personnel at University Medical Center in New Orleans in stable condition. Cruise ship suffered engine issues
On Oct 24, 2024, the 'Brillance of the Seas' suffered engine issues in Progresso, Mexico. Engineers fixed the technical issue, but the vessel was then waiting for another ship to dock next to it. The ship finally sailed at 1.30 p.m. and berthed in New Orleans on Oct 26.
Medevac off St. Petersburg
The US Coast Guard medevaced a 31-year-old Ukrainian man from the 'Brilliance of the Sea' 20 miles west of St. Petersburg, Florida, on March 19, 2020. The Coast Guard St. Petersburg received a medevac request after 2 p.m. from medical personnel aboard the ship who said the man had lacerations to his arm and torso. The Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater deployed an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter which hoisted the patient and safely transported the man to Tampa General Hospital.
