Experts of the Federal Police (PF) and officials of the Captaincy of São Paulo Ports (CPSP) as well representatives of the Ministry of Labor were investigating the causes of the accident that killed a worker on the "Ocean Phoenix 1" which was underway from Itaquai to Santos. Vanderley Ferreira da Silva, 25, was cleaning one of the holds of the vessel when he was hit in the thigh by a high-pressure jet and died on the spot on June 20, 2016. The body was removed from the vessel on June 21 at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday (21), after docking in Santos pier. The ship made a trip between the ports of Itaguai (RJ) and Santos. The Guaruja resident Vanderley worked for the Cleanse Guaçu Ltd., a company specialized in cleaning ships holds and Containers, since January 2014. Initial reports were that despite the experience he may have been careless, and so he was hit by the jet of water at high pressure. The suspicion was that the jet has pierced the thigh and cut his femoral artery between 10 and 15 cm under the skin. Investigators were evaluating possible criminal liability, with a possible indictment for manslaughter. The "Ocean Phoenix" remained berthed at the 3 warehouse at Pier 33 in Santos.
