Large projectile found in mud during repairs

Thu Dec 14 11:50:52 CET 2023 Timsen

A bullet was found on Dec 13, 2023, aboard the 'Bonny River', which was undergoing repairs at the Palermo shipyards since Dec 11 after having worked in Egypt. The large projectile was found among the mud on board. It was perfectly functional and recovered during the excavation work. The soldiers of the Port Authority, the shipyard staff, the police officers and the bomb squad intervened. After the security system was triggered, the device was analyzed by the bomb squad. It was recovered and then to be shined in a quarry. Technical investigations were now underway to understand whether that bullet was placed on board for a specific purpose or was simply abandoned there without taking into account the resulting risks and therefore the possible consequences and how long it has been there. It may, in fact, have been transported far and wide across the Mediterranean for some time.
