Marlene towed to Harlingen after gear damage
The "Marlene" was towed to a repair yard in Harlingen by the tug "MTS Victory" on Feb 17, 2014. The ship had suffered a serious gear damage and was unloaded in Velzen North/Ijmuiden. The cargo of cable reels was transferred onto the "Atlantic". The operation was managed by World Wise Marine brokers in IJmuiden. The "Marlene" then had to wait one week for weather improvement before the convoy on Feb 17 at 8 a.m. finally headed for the yard in Herring and docked on Feb 18 around 1 a.m. Dutch reports with photos: http://www.tugspotters.com/site/content/2014/02/mts-victory-sleept-marlene-de-sluizen-uit-in-ijmuiden/ http://www.tugspotters.com/site/content/2014/02/marlene-under-tow-to-haringen-17214-at-7-50-hours/
Diesel leak caused fire alarm
Enroute Newcastle-upon-Tyne to Gdynia a fire was reported aboard the "Marlene" on Jan 10, 2012, around 11 a.m. near the North Hordland Bridge. Including the pilot, ten people were on board the ship. The lifeboat "Kristian Gerdard Jebsen" was sent to the site, and first it was planned to tow the "Marlene" to a quay. However, what looked like a fire, was only the steam from a small diesel leak. The vessel was able to proceed with its own power, but it was escorted by the "Kristian Gerdard Jebsen." The crew of the cargo ship had spare parts on board which enabled it to fix the damage. Also the Bergen Fire Department had attended with its boat "Sjøsprøyten". By afternoon the situation was completely resolved.
