Trawler broke off its moorings

Mon Feb 04 10:08:36 CET 2019 Timsen

On Feb 1, 2019, at 06.15 a.m. the NSRI Station Hout Bay got a call from a family living aboard their yacht in the Hout Bay Yacht Club Marina reporting the "Boloko 1" had broken away from her mooringinside of the North Mole Quay and was at risk of bumping into their yacht and other yachts. The lifeboat "Nadine Gordimer" was launched, and the NSRI rescue vehicle responded to the quayside. Upon arrival on the scene they found the fishing trawler still attached to her mooring by the stern line but the bow line had broken free and the trawler bow was adrift in East South Easterly winds of 40 knots and at risk of bumping into boats. Attempts were made to contact the owners of the trawler, and lines were attached from the liefeboat to the trawler. A tractor was provided by the Hout Bay Boatyard, and lines were attached from the tractor to the trawler and between the "Nadine Gordimer", pulling on the one side of the trawler and the tractor pulling on the other side of the trawler we were able to manoeuvre her back to her moorings where it was secured. No damage was caused and no further assistance was required. Report with photos: https://www.nsri.org.za/2019/02/nsri-hout-bay-secures-fishing-trawler/
