Medevac off Shetlands

Thu Sep 27 18:44:23 CEST 2018 Timsen

The Coastguard SAR helicopter Rescue 900 was called into action on Sep 27, 2018, to medevac a crew member of the "Bibby Polaris". A call was received by the Coastguard operations centre in Shetland at 9.15 a.m. with the helicopter chartered from Sumburgh to attend the "Bibby Polaris", located around 100 nautical miles south-east of the Shetland Isle, after a member on board required medical attention. Rescue 900 took the patient to Clickimin landing site where he was then transferred on to the Gilbert Bain Hospital in Lerwick.

Wrecked helicopter to be unloaded in Lerwick

Wed Aug 28 18:41:03 CEST 2013 Timsen

The wreckage of the Super Puma helicopter which crashed off Sumburgh Head was expected to be unloaded from the "Bibby Polaris" in the night of Aug 29 in Lerwick Harbour. The ship has spent five days searching for the vital black box flight data recorder and the missing tail section of the aircraft. It was expected to dock at Shetland’s main harbour around 10 p.m.

Bibby Polaris searching for lost data recorder

Tue Aug 27 10:50:32 CEST 2013 Timsen

Investigators aboard the "Bibby Polaris" on Aug 26 were continuing to search for the black box data recorder of a helicopter that plunged into the North Sea, killing four oil workers. Salvage experts at the site of the crash have been using specialist sonar equipment to try to trace the device, which was located in the lost tail section of the aircraft. It was hoped information on the flight recorder will help establish what caused the CHC-operated Super Puma AS332 L2 to ditch as it approached Sumburgh airport on the southern tip of Shetland on Aug 23 evening. Once traced, the recorder was to be transported to the headquarters of the Air Accidents Investigation Branch at Farnborough, Hampshire, for examination.
