Bodyer drifted aground after lay up of 939 days
The "Bodyer" was among three unmanned cargo vessels in lay-up which were pushed aground in the Nemrut Bay, Aliaga, during a storm which battered the area ion Feb 1, 2015. The "Gofer B" started to drift at 1 p.m. in the direction of the Çandarlı Sewn Quarter. During the drift of 3-4 miles in winds of 55 knots, the vessel created a danger for shipping and was monitored by the "Alo 158" of the Turkish Coastguard until it ran aground Piri Reis. At 10 p.m. the guard aboard the "Melek B" alerted UZMAR Nemrut Kılavuzluk with his cellphone. A Nimrod aircraft took off for a surveillance flight. Tugs were unable to intervene due to the severe weather conditions. All three vessel had been anchored in the Cakmakli area, with the "Gofer B" and "Melek B" having one guard on board and the "Bodyer" being unmanned. All vessels dragged anchors and were pushed aground. The guards aboard the "Gofer B" and "Melek B" were evacuated in the early morning of Feb 2 by a helicopter of the Air Force with the guard aboard the "Melek B" being hoisted at 5.52 a.m and he guird of the "Gofer B" at 6.23 a.m. Both were safely delivered at Aliaga at 6.42 a.m. The "Bodyer" got stuck off Foça. All three vessels had been laid up since the end of 2012. The salvage works was due to commence after the storm has subsided. The "Bahri Reis 2" of the Katip Çelebi University also broke lose from its moorings and drifted aground in the port of Güzelbahçe.
