Jack-up vessel Seafox 5 departs Damen Verolme Rotterdam ready for the next generation of wind turbines
The 151-metre, self-propelled, DP2 jack-up rig Seafox 5 has left the Damen Verolme Rotterdam (DVR) shipyard following a four-month refit in which the boom of its main crane was lengthened to prepare it for a new contract, along with a range of maintenance and other upgrade works. Seafox 5 is now equipped to undertake offshore wind projects involving the next generation of larger wind turbines in water depths of up to 65 metres.Delivered in 2012, Seafox 5 is owned and operated by jack-up specialist Seafox BV; the world´s largest offshore jack-up ASV / offshore support company. 151 metres long and with a breadth of 50 metres, she is the largest vessel in the Seafox fleet and has a 1,200 tonne main crane and accommodation for up to 150 personnel. Her arrival at DVR in September last year marked her first time in drydock since her initial delivery.
Seafox 5 completes wind installation project
On the 13th of December 2013 the largest self-propelled installation jack-up of the Workfox fleet, the Seafox 5, completed installing 80 monopiles and transition pieces for the DanTysk Offshore wind park, located in the German North Sea, 70 kilometres west of the island Sylt. The main contractor for the foundations of this windfarm is Aarsleff Billfinger Berger Joint Venture (ABJV). The windfarm is owned by DanTysk Offshore Wind GmbH (DTOW).
Keppel to deliver one of the world’s largest multi-purpose offshore wind turbine installers
The vessel, Seafox 5, is able to operate in harsh environments and up to 65 meters water depth - the deepest for such vessels - as well as carry a wide variety of foundations and turbines Keppel FELS Limited (Keppel FELS) is on track to deliver Seafox 5, one of the largest and most advanced multi-purpose offshore wind turbine installers of its kind to the Seafox Group, ahead of time and with an impressive safety record. The vessel was named on 18 August 2012 at Keppel FELS with Singapore's Acting Minister for Manpower and Senior Minister of State for National Development, Mr Tan Chuan-Jin, as the Guest of Honour.
