Platform pushed by Bingen broke lose and sank
On Dec 15, 2016, around 07:30 a.m. a barge being pushed by the "Bingen" sank at the right river shore at Rhine-km 587,6 near Koblenz-Horchheim. The approximately 15 meters long work platform broke off from the workboat which was sailing river upstream to Mainz by hitherto unknown reasons. Some oil spilt after the sinking. The platform had on board 160 liters diesel and 30 liters fuel oil. For the time being, the ship traffic could pass the accident site at slow speed while an attempt was made to move the barge closer to the right bank of the Rhine where the crane ship "Niklas" was to remove it from the water.
