Grounding in Government Cut

Fri Nov 08 18:36:11 CET 2019 Timsen

The 'Betty K VI' ran aground in the Government Cut, Fisher island, Miami, on Nov 7, 2019, while leaving port bound for Nassau. The Coast Guard Miami responded to the grounding north of Fishers Island after watchstanders received a notification at approximately 5 p.m., stating the vessel ran hard aground on the barrier island three miles offshore of mainland South Florida after losing propulsion. The watchstanders issued a safety marine information broadcast. There were no reported injuries, pollution or hazards to navigation. The ship which also hit and damaged some pilings and a wooden pier before running onto the rocks of the island, was refloated some time later by two tugs, taken back to port and re-berthed for investigations.
