Patrol vessel saved 90 year old man in gale
On Sep 11, 2014, at 10 a.m. a 90 year old man took to sea in a 15 ft-boat in the Langstrand Fjord at Sørøya. The weather was fine, but turned worse then, and at 1.30 p.m. the Rescue Center North-Norway dispatched the "Beta" for an SAR operation after the man was reported missing. The "Beta" was at Værosgrunnen at that time. When they started searching, a fresh gale was blowing. The crew observed a boat on the shoreline on the west side of the Sand Fjord, not far from the Langstrand Fjord. It turned out to be the missing man who had not been able to get home because of the bad weather. He was wet and cold, and he was taken aboard and warmed up. Ambulance and Port Control were then contacted and the man transported to hospital. Norwegian report with photo: http://www.kystverket.no/Nyheter/2014/September/Redningsaksjon-i-sterk-kuling/
