The "VOC Rose" suffered mechanical problems and was forced to reduce speed on Apr 26 at 3 a.m. halfway between Alexandria and Canakkale. The "VOC Rose" passed through the Strait of Pasos at 2 p.m. and on Apr 28 was proceeding towards the northern coast of Crete at a speed of three knots only.
