Plan for floatinng senior citizen residency failed
The pöan to convert the 'Bellriva' into the floating senoíor residency ship 'FT Calea' for up to 100 people has failed. The ship was supposed to be sailing the rivers of Central Europe withthe seniors. The demand was great, but, however, the corona pandemic came and thwarted the project, according to managing director Thady Alexander Thömmes. The company filed for bankruptcy.
Allision on the Rhine
On July 4, 2015, around 3 p.m. the "Bellriva" suffered a failure of the bow thruster when turning into the fairway at Rüdesheim on the Rhine. While the ship turned around, the engine stopped working, and the ship allided with the river cruise ship "Symphonie" which was berthed at pier 4. The damage caused was estimated to be around 30.000 Euro. The cause of the accident was a technical failure.
Two passengers remain in hospital, ship to be sanitized
Two passengers remained hospitalized on Dec 9, 2012, after the norovirus outbreak aboard the "Bellriva". They will be released from the Horst-Schmidt-Clinik in Wiesbaden n 1-2 days. Another passenger was released in the early morning. The remaining passengers were transported to Colonia with coaches in the morning. On the whole 72 passengers and crew members had fallen ill on Dec 8. The "Bellriva" remained at the pier in Biebrich and will be sanitized probably on Dec 10. The "Bellriva" had left Colonia on Dec 6 with 145 mostly elderly tourists and 42 crew members for a Rhine cruise which was scheduled to end there again on Dec 8. At the southernmost point of the voyage in Wiesbaden-Biebrich several passengers needed medical treatment. Short before midnight the local rescue center was informed about the infectuous illness of the passengers, and at 2 a.m. the ship was put under quarantine. In the early morning of Dec 8 medicals boarded the ship and treated the sick people in their cabins.
