Ship with 770 passengers ran aground
The "Bei You 25" with 770 passengers on board ran aground in the afternoon of March 23,2019, at the western coast of Weizhou island in the Gulf of Tonkin. Refloating operations lasted until early morning of March 24. The vessel was finallly freeed at 7.55 a.m. It was decided not to evacuate passengers because of safety reasons with the darkness of the night hours and blustery winds. Extra water and food supplies were delivered on board. Following the successful salvage, the vessel was taken to port with all passengers being safe.
