Captain in serious condition after being stabbed

Sat Nov 16 18:27:48 CET 2024 Timsen

The captain of the 'BBG Journey' was stabbed on Nov 15, 2024, about 400 nautical miles off the coast of the Maldonado department. In response to this, the ship requested assistance from the Uruguayan Navy to treat the injured man. The Navy ordered the Uruguayan ship 'ROU04' to head towards the position of the vessel to provide assistance together with a doctor. The ships made contact on the morning of Nov 16. The adverse weather conditions made it difficult for the doctor to be transferred onto the ship, so it was decided that both ships would proceed towards the coast of Maldonado and that when they reached the range of action of a helicopter, the Navy would medevac the man and take him to a health centre in Uruguay. It was reported that the captain was in serious condition, but stable.

172 kilos cocaine found in sea water intake

Thu Feb 09 10:56:32 CET 2023 Timsen

The Gibraltar authorities found 172 kilos of cocaine that were being transported hidden in the sea intake box of the 'BBG Journey' on Feb 8, 2023. The Peñón Maritime Traffic services requested the intervention of the Customs service while the ship was supplying fuel in the Bay of Algeciras. The claim responded to a routine inspection of the hull, where divers of Tráfico Marítimo had detected several anomalies next to the sea intake, specifically some ropes that protruded through the deck grid. The Customs service deployed the patrol boat HMC 'Sentinel', whose crew located six large packages hidden in the sea intake box of the vessel. After being analyzed, it was found that the packages contained a total of 172 kilos of cocaine. After questioning its crew, the Gibraltarian authorities released the ship, which continued its vyoage from IUmbituba to Cartagena with an ETA as of Feb 9.
