Cargo ship rescued 62 migrants, one minor girl died
On Sep 6, 2022, the BBC Pearl', en route from Rotterdam to Port Said, was diverted to a distressed migrant boat 50 nautical miles west of Crete with 62 people on board in the SAR zone of Malta. They were taken on board. The had been adrift in the sea without food nor water since days. A four year old girl, already unconscious, was taken with her mother by a Greek navy helicopter to a hospital in Chania. However, the girl was too exhausted and dehydrated and was pronounced dead at the hospital. The mother of the girl was accomodated in a guesthouse of the Chania General Hospital. The 'BBC Pearl' headed towards the Greek SAR zone in order to disembark the remaining 61 castaways at Kalous Limenes north of Crete onto the 'Lanza'. 33 of them were men, seven women and 21 minors. Two of them, one woman and one man, were transported by ambulance to the General Hospital of Heraklion. A preliminary investigation was carried out by the Central Port Authority of Heraklion.

The Fort Lauderdale based Yacht Path Marine Group has been proudly awarded the contract to transport the 270-ton, 140-foot custom-build pirate ship from Barbers Point, Hawaii to St. Thomas. The replica pirate ship "Black Pearl" was most famously known for her role in Disney's blockbuster Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. This replica tall ship set is constructed over the hull of another vessel, the "Sunset", which was once used to service the oil fields in the Gulf of Mexico. The shipment started on Nov 12.
