Disabled barge pulled to Deggendorf
The "Bavaria 53" war removed from the Danube fairway on May 27 at 7.15 p.m. and the ship traffic was resumed. A pusher tug moved the "Bavaria 53" into the port of Deggendorf where the cargo of 1000 tons fertilizer will be unloaded and the damage surveyed. The collision with the "Melissa“ had caused only scratches. The cause of the fire still has to be investigated by the police Deggendorf. The "Melissa“ was surveyed by the police Passau, but no damage found.
Ship caught fire and was hit by another barge
On May 27, 2012, the "Bavarie 53" sailing river downstream from Jochenstein to Bamberg with a cargo of 1000 tons fertilizer suffered a fire in the engine room on the Danube at Aichet. The fire was accompanied by dense smoke. The local fire brigades extinguished the fire and were able to contain it in the engine room which, however, was gutted. The damage was estimated to be around 300 000 Euro. At 2.10 p.m. the "Melissa" approached coming downstream and was caught by strong currents. The ship ran into the bow of the "Bavaria 53" which herself was stuck on the left Danube shore. Both ships were slightly damaged, the “Melissa” proceeded to Passau for investigations. The fairway was blocked, and the river had to be closed for ship traffic between Deggendorf and Vilshofen.
