Fireboat assisted after sinking of fishing vessel
The "Oberbaurat Schimdt" was assisting after the 8-mf/v "Chap" sank in the port of Hamburg-Harburg on Nov 2, 2014. A witness had remarked that the 80 year old vessel had submerged with only part of the wheelhouse and the bow remaining above water, and alerted the fire rescue. When the fireboat arrived, the f/v was on the bottom at the quay of the Treidel Way. The fire brigade laid out oil booms and raised the 17-ton-wreck with a mobile crane from a water depth of seven meters. On Nov 3 the "Chap" was to be surveyed in a nearby yard.
