Engine room fire in Piombino

Fri Jan 12 20:45:47 CET 2024 Timsen

On Jan 11, 2024, shortly after 7 a.m., a fire broke out in the engine room of the 'Bastia' at the port of Piombino. The origin of the fire was a diesel leak from one of the three generators which, with the high temperatures present, had caught fire and also set the area of the general power supply cables on fire, triggering a system blackout. The ship's own firefighting team intervened first before the arrival of the Piombino fire brigade, which put out the fire at 8 a.m. The vessel, moored at the Trieste quay, was out of general scheduled service and only conducting routes on an occasional basis. There were no injuries among those present on board the vessel. When the fire was extinguished, the vessel was put at the disposal of the Piombino port authority for all necessary checks and investigations.

Fri Dec 16 09:16:09 CET 2016 Timsen

Three workers were injured in an accident with the "Bastia" which was drydocked at the shipyard Salvadori in the port of Livorno in the morning of Dec 15, 2016. The ferry suddenly lurched for reasons that are still investigatted. The ship had just entered the basin and was pulled into the dock when it started to move to both sides, causing the fall of the three workers. Two of them suffered slight bruises and were accompanied to the emergency room, while the third was in a state of shock, but refused hospitalization.
