Bulkcarrier smashed on berthing dolphin

Sun Dec 07 07:28:22 CET 2014 Timsen

In Bohol at Garcia Hernandez town the "Golden Eye" loaded with limestone mined from the Philippine Mining and Sintering Corporation, was smashed on its berthing dolphin by storm Quennie around Nov 27, 2014. It scraped its side and punctured three holes, before a huge wave at the height of storm deposited it on top of a fallen dolphin. The ship was delicately balanced on top of a berthing dolphin, effectively elevating its punctured holes the sea water could not get into it. While the punctures are in the ship’s ballast tanks, the cargo ship also had on board 300 metric tons of bunker fuel. The bunker has to be drained before it could be pulled off from the site The Coast Guard has sought the help of the local government unit of Garcia Hernandez, the military forces, reservists and other volunteers to be on stand by.
