Tanker accused of illegally lifting a butane cargo

Mon Jun 12 13:07:13 CEST 2023 Timsen

The 'Barumk Gas', which had left Bonny on June 9, 2023, and was anchored in Ghana’s Tema port on June 11, was to be seized after ExxonMobil was accused of illegally lifting a butane cargo at the Bonny Terminal, without NMDPRA authorisation. The company was accused to have destroyed the locks on the sea-line valve whose keys were in the custody of the Authority. The armed forces should “urgently prevent” the Barumk Gas’ sailing “until investigations into the matter are concluded”. There has been regulatory tension in Nigeria between NMDPRA and the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC). The Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) caused a degree of uncertainty in this regard. Exxon produces NGLs from its Oso field at a facility on Bonny Island.
