Medevac off Oahu

Sun Jan 14 17:33:29 CET 2018 Timsen

A 31-year-old man from the "Barcelona Knutsen" was medevaced by the Coast Guard 13 miles south of Oahu, on Jan 13, 2018. Watchstanders at the Coast Guard Joint Rescue Coordination Center Honolulu received a request for a medevac on Jan 11 at 7 p.m., Thursday, from the master of the tanker for the crewman who reportedly sustained injuries to his face while conducting maintenance on a fire extinguisher. The vessel was approximately 575 miles south of the Big Island at the time of the request. Watchstanders consulted the Coast Guard duty flight surgeon who recommended the medevac. On Jan 13 at 8:27 a.m., an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter aircrew from Coast Guard Air Station Barbers Point hoisted the crewman aboard and safely delivered him in stable condition to awaiting emergency medical services personnel at Daniel K. Inouye International Airport. Weather on scene of the initial report was 11 mph winds and 3 foot seas.
