On Nov 23 the "Barbara Blomberg" proceeded to Deggendorf. The barge which remained grounded at Danube km 2267,1 has been lightered in the run of the day and followed, towed by the "Stark". The river bottom still had to be sounded and silt that built up dredged away before the fairway buoy could be laid out again. The river was re-opened for downbound ship traffic at 3 p.m., for ships sailing upstream the river was re-opened around 7 p.m.
Tug and barge blocking fairway of Danube
On Nov 20, 2016, at 8.40 p.m. the German pusher tug "Barbara Blomberg" (EU-No.: 05700380) ran aground at Osterhofen, Deggendorf municipality, on the Danube, with a lighter. The ships got stuck in the Mühlhamer curve and was blocking the fairway. The tug had on board a Romanian crew of six, the barge was loaded with 2758 tons sun flower cernels bound from Slovakia to Amsterdam. The ship got onto the right side embankment due to strong currents and got stuck at the old ferry pt. at Ruckasing. The barge will have to be lightered to be refloated which might take some days.
