Barge capsized in Kakinada
18 people were saved after the barge 'K.K.D-81' of the Satyam Balaji Rice company with 600 tons of rice cargo capsized and sank in Kakinada on Feb 9, 2020, at 5 a.m. after encountering stormy seas and strong winds in the Bay of Bengal. The barge was on her way to the outer port to trasnfer the cargo onto the 'Bar' which was to take the cargo to Senegal. The barge with its crew and dockers on board capsized when coming alongside the bulkcarrier which was moored on Kakinada anchorage in pos. 16° 59.96' N 082° 19.45' E. All casualties could be brought ashore unscathed. The first steps to salvage the barge have been initiated. The police started an investigation. Collision off Chittagong
The "Bar" was in collision with the bulkcarrier "Marine Stars" (IMO: 9330109)on Chittagong outer anchorage in the morning of Sep 23, 2017. The "Bar" was loaded with 23000 tons of steel coil and had arrived at the anchorage on Sep 22, the "Marine Stars" was in Bangladesh waters, including Chittagong port, since at least Sep 1. Both vessels sustained damages, about 30 meters of the railings on the main deck at starboard side of the "Bar" were damaged, the deck was deformed.
