Tug attacked and seized by Houthi rebels off Yemen
The 'Rabigh 3' has been attacked by pirates off Yemen in position 15 25N 042 18E northof Kamaran Island. The attack took place 15 miles west of Kamaran Island on Nov 17, 2019. There was no information on the extent of the damage to the ship which had switched off its AIS transmitter barely two weeks ago on its way from Jizan to Saleff in Yemen. It was not known if people were injured in the attack which was carried out by Houthi rebels. The tug was seized and taken to Al Qaryah. In addition to the tug, the rebels have seized a South Korean drilling rig that the 'Rabigh 3' had in tow. The tug's crew and at least two South Korean nationals were now being detained by the Houthi rebels. The South Korean government required the drilling rig and South Korean nationals to be released immediately, but the Houthis intended to investigate the drilling rig's ownership before deciding what to do with the rig.
