Allision in Bremerhaven

Wed Nov 01 18:24:52 CET 2017 Timsen

On Oct 30, 2017, the "Pollux" suffered a failure of the main engine while being underway on the Weser off the Strom Quay in Bremerhaven. Due to the wind and current the ship was turned around towards its scheduled berth. The crew dropped anchor in an attempt to avoid an allision with berthed vessels at the quay. However, it hit the quay itself in a 90 degree angle. Both quay and ship suffered significant damage. The ship was detained until having been declared seaworthy. Master and pilot were routinely drug tested with negative results. On Nov 1 at 2.50 p.m. the "Pollux" shifted to a berth at the Columbus Quay in Bremerhaven. She entered the Bredo Yard in Bremerhaven for repairs on Nov 2 at 9.45 p.m. The ship left the yard on Nov 21 at 4 p.m. and dropped anchor on New Weser Roads. 100 liters oil spilt in Gävle

Wed Feb 15 10:46:03 CET 2017 Timsen

Up to 100 liters of hydraulic oil leaked from the "Pollux" in the Gävle container port on Feb 15, 2017, after a hydraulic hose broke. The Gästrikeleden rescue was alerted at 3.30 a.m. Emergency services were called to the scene, together with port staff to assess the extent of the spill and in order to take care of the hydraulic oil leaked from the vessel. As there was ice in the basin they could not put oil booms. The port staff continued to remove the oil, while the emergency services have left the site in the morning.

Pollux involved in accident in Kiel Canal

Sat May 09 14:48:45 CEST 2015 Timsen

Enroute from Cagliari to Liepaja the "Bremer Martha" suffered an engine blackout while sailing eastbound in the Kiel Canal and ran into the northern embankment of the Kiel Canal near Breiholz on May 8, 2015. She got stuck between two doplhins after having touched the westward bound "Pollux" which was enroute from Kotka to Rotterdam. The tug "Wolf" was called to assist and pulled the "Bremer Martha" to the communal port of Rendsburg. The "Pollux" was investigated in Rotterdam after its arrival on May 9 short past midnight and continued its voyage at 5.25 a.m.
