Ferry service connecting Mersin and Tripoli using Azzurra to start June 11, 2012

Sat Jun 09 08:07:26 CEST 2012 arnekiel

Turkey and Lebanon will inaugurate a ferry service connecting Mersin and Tripoli next week, the Anatolian News Agency reported Friday. It said a Turkish roll-on/roll-off (ro-ro) ship and a ferry boat would begin the trips between the two ports. The two ships both belong to private Turkish companies and will carry vehicles and passengers, NNA reported. “The Turkish companies’ decision to begin trips came after the governments of Turkey and Lebanon recently held talks for such trips after violent clashes in Syria that negatively affected transportation through Syria,” said the ANA. The ferry boat named “Azzurra” will make the first trip on June 11. The boat has a passenger capacity of 700 and can accommodate up to 170 automobiles, 25 trucks or 18 semitrailer trucks, the report said. The “Mersin Ro-Ro” ship will travel from Mersin to Lebanon once a week and will carry semitrailer trucks and also passengers.
