Engine failure off Istanbul Strait

Thu Dec 27 20:56:50 CET 2018 Timsen

The "Madlin H.", en route from Constanta to Diliskelesi,, suffered an engine failure in the northern entrance of the Istanbul Strait on Dec 25, 2018. The coastal safety tug "Mehmetcik" attended in order to provide assistance. Subsequently, the vessel moved to the Turkeli anchorage and dropped anchor at 2 p.m. under supervision of the tug. Repairs were still being carried out by the crew. On Dec 27 at 4.15 p.m. the vessel moored on Kilyos anchorage in pos. 41° 16.68' N 029° 0.24' E. As the repairs could not be carried out by the crew, the anchor handling tug "Ocean Ergun" was appointed to tow the vessel from the incident scene to a discharge port. Upon completion of formalities, towage operation commenced on Jan 1, 2019, at 5 a.m. The "Madlin H" arrived in Diliskelesi at 2.30 p.m. in order to carry out cargo discharge operations. Upon completion of discharge operation in the coming days, the vessel shifted from Diliskelesi to a shipyard in Tuzla for permanent repairs on Jan 5. She sailed from Tuzla again on March 9 at 10.30 a.m. and moored off the port in pos. 40° 50.34' N 029° 13.99' E.
