River cruise ship ran into bridge
In the night of May 16, 2012, the "Avalon Panorama" being enroute Netherlands-Budapest allided with a road bridge spanning the Main-Donau-Canal near Forchheim short before midnight. The wheelhouse had not been lowered enough when the ship entered the Forchheim lock due to a misjudgement of the master who escaped without injury as he had steered the ship from an outer helm. The wheelhouse and superstructure of the river cruise ship were severely damaged. The destroyed top of the wheelhouse had to be removed with a mobile crane. The damage to the ship was estimated to be at least 20.000 Euro. The passengers were transferred to Nuernberg by bus.
