Medevac off Islas Cíes
On April 10, 2024, a passenger of the 'Aurora', en route from Southampton, UK, to Lisbon, needed to be medevaced off the Spanish coast. The CCS Vigo of Salvamento Marítimo mobilized the SAR vessel 'Salvamar Mirach', which rendezvoused with the ship east of the Islas Cíes and took the patient to the ferry dock in Vigo, where an ambulance was waiting for further transport to hospital. The ship berthed at the cruise terminal in Lisbon on April 11 at 8.20 a.m.
Medevac at Nab Anchorage
On April 9, 2023, at 7.25 p.m. the RNLB 'Alfred Albert William' was launched at th request of the Solent Coast Guard to medevac a crew member from the 'Aurora' at the Nab Anchoage, who was believed to have suffered a stroke. Amid calm weather, the lifeboat went alongside at 7.45 p.m., but here was a brief delay as the cruise ship rigged the side pontoon to assist in the trnsfer. At 8.20 p.m. two members of the lifeboat crew boarded the cruise ship and assisted the patient, who was able to walk, on board. The lifeboat then sailed to Portsmmouth Camber, where an ambulance was waiting. At 8.45 p.m. the man was handed over to the paramedics, and the lifeboat was re-housed at Bembridge at 9.30 p.m.
88 year old passenger died on board
An 88-year-old British passenger of the "Aurora" died aboard the ship in the morning of Aug 21, 2019. The vessel had sailed from Southampton to Funchal. The crew reported to the CROSS Corsen at 07.50 that the passenger had fallen ill. After a remote consultation of the maritime medical center of Toulouse and the SAMU in Brest, it was decided to send a Caiman NH 90 helicopter. Around the time when the staff was hoisted on board, shortly before 10 a.m., the patient was dead. His body will be kept on board until the ship has arrived in Funchal the next weekend.
