Swell of tanker damaged Rhine ferry

Thu May 15 09:44:41 CEST 2014 Timsen

The swell of the "Auriga" on May 13, 2014, caused damage to the ferry in Kaub on the Rhine. The tanker was underway from Mannheim to Krefeld sailing river downstream at 1.10 p.m. and overtook the barge "Anroma" at river km 546. The unloaded tanker obviuosly was so fast that the swell it produced pushed the ferry onto the river embankment causing the Schottel propulsion to break off. The ferry service was interrupted until 5.30 p.m. when the propulsion was exchanged. The damage was in the five digit thousand Euros. Waldhof back as Auriga

Thu Mar 22 09:50:58 CET 2012 Timsen

After extensive repairs have been completed, the former acid tanker "Waldhof", which had capsized on the Rhine near St. Goar on Jan 13, 2011, is back on the Rhine. The tank barge was bearing the name "Auriga" when returning to service three weeks ago. The "Auriga" will transport chemicals and other liquids on the same stretch of the Rhine as was the case even before the sinking. Why the accident happened is still unclear. The prosecution believes that the "Waldhof" was too heavy loaded which had affected the stability of the tanker.
