Runaway tanker wreaked havoc
The "Au Virgo" has wreaked havoc on the Yangon River in Myanmar on Jan 2, 2018. The tanker allided with the NGJ wharf and boats near the Strand Road market in the morning hours. The palm-oil carrier was unable to control its steering as it chose the wrong path. It had docked near the Sinmalaik jetty and drifted along the Yangon River at river km 1,12. The vessel drifted downstream with force and so people on boats near the area had to run for their lives before the ship regained control. A small wooden boat which has been valued at around K500,000 was sunk. Luckily no one was injured. No one has opened a lawsuit as discussions between the port authority and the authority from the vessel took place.
