Greenpeace activists protested against pipeline in Mukran

Thu Sep 07 13:23:31 CEST 2023 Timsen

On Sep 7, 2023, a group of Greenpeace activists protested against the construction of a gas pipeline in the port of Mukran on the island of Rügen. In the early morning, they moved three inflatable boats in front of the ships in the port of Mukran, which were supposed to transport the pipes for the planned landing pipeline to Lubmin, where construction work is already underway, to prevent them from sailing. The inscription "No new gas" was painted on the port side of the 'Standard Duke'. A banner with the slogan "Gas Destroys" was also attached to the loading crane. In addition to the federal and water police, the fire brigade was also deployed. The ship, which Greenpeace blocked with inflatable boats, has meanwhile been able to leave the port. After more than six hours, the protest in the port area ended. All activists have left the occupied loading crane. Some of them climed down independently, others were brought down by the fire brigade with a turntable ladder and handed over to the police. They could face charges of holding an unannounced meeting, damaging property and trespassing. The police was looking for the part of the group who left the port after the work ship was blocked.
