Freighter grounded off Piraeus
The Salamis Port Authority was informed in the morning of Dec 14, 2019, that the 'Puffy' which had been anchored due to a mechanical failure off Piraeus went adrift due to adverse weather conditions and grounded at Accra Tropea with 21 crew members on board. The tugs 'Christos XII', 'Leon', Ifestos I' and 'Chrostos XXVII' were called to assist and towed the vessel to a shipyard facility at Ambelakia in Salamis, where an oil barrier was placed around it after officials of the Salamina Port Authority noticed a small water ingress into the engine room. Divers inspected the hull and found a hole and a 0.5-meter breach. There was no risk of sinking due to the water depth at the mooring. The ship was detained until the damage was repaired and a Certificate of Seaworthiness issued.
