Athos getting lightered
The ship traffic between Deggendorf and Vilshofenwas interrupted on Feb 28 as the lightering of the "Athos" has started. About 170 tons of corn were to be removed from the cargo hold of the vessel since the morning. It was hoped to get the ship off in the afternoon, while two more remained stuck due to low water levels. Athos grounded on Danube
On Feb 23, 2014, at 10 a.m. the "Panta Rhei II", 1118 ts (EU-No.: 04802640), allided with a fairway buoy while running river upstream on the Danube enroute from Passau to Regensburg. The chain of the buoy got stuck under the hull, and the ship was only able to proceed with reduced speed. While the Romanian barge "Athos", 1124 ts (EU-No.: 02313083), enroute from Passau to Straubing, tried to pass the "Panta Rhei II", it got stuck on a gravel bar near Schnelldorf. The "Athos" was carrying a cargo of 760 tons corn. Ship traffic was closed in both directions. The "Panta Rhei II", slowly proceeded further upstream. It was expected that the "Athos" could refloat once the river tide was rising without assistance. Speedo speedless
In the night of Aug 13, 2012, the "Speedo", 1124 ts (EU-No.: 02313083), ran aground on the Danube at Regelsbrunn, at river km 1902 in the Bruck region. The ship was enroute Passau-Rotterdam. The width of the fairway was reduced to 30 meters by the casualty, so that ship traffic remained possible only between 5 a.m. and 8 p.m., and the river was closed for shipping during the nighttime. The ship will have to be lightered before it can be pulled off. It got stuck near the sinking site of another ship which sank in May 2011 and was blocking the main fairway since.
