Sail training vessel ran aground
The "Atene" ran aground southeast of Stora Kornö, northwest of Lysekil, on Aug 22, 2014, with 24 Trainees onboard. No injuries were reported. Weather in the area was south wind around 10 m/s with small waves. The sea rescue center was alerted at 3.30 p.m. The ship was apparently listing when the Coastguard vessel "KBV 032" reached the site some minutes later. At 3:36 the "KBV 432" arrived, followed by the RIB "KBV 032". At 4.01 p.m. the "KBV 032" and "Pilot 740" started to pull off the ship from the shoal. At 4.41 p.m. it was Floating again, and the hull was checked for leaks. At 4.45 p.m the "Atene" headed to the port on Store Kornö with own power under escort, where further diver surveys were undertaken. Also the pilot boat 740 from Brofjorden and two boats of the lifeboat-station Smögen attended, the "Resque Olle Bohlin" and "Rescue Rotary" attended. One Person was evacuated from the ship onto the "Rescue Rotary" and then transferred onto the larger "Resque Olle Bohlin.
