Bulkcarrier detained after three crewmembers were poisoned
Three seriously poisoned crew members of the "Atalanta" were evacuated by a rescue helicopter while the ship was at anchor in the Bay of Aarhus on Jan 13, 2013. The three Filipino crew members had severe symptoms of poisoning, after they had worked in a hold that had been cleaned with gases. The three men's condition was so bad that the ship's captain refused an offer from Aarhus Harbour to land the crew there. Then the SOK decided to request a rescue helicopter, while the "Brigade" of the Danish Naval Home Guard was sent to the scene. When the rescue helicopter arrived a medical was hoisted onto the freighter, and took the immediate decision that the three crew members were to be taken ashore by helicopter. The helicopter hoisted the three sick sailors and flew them to Aarhus port from which they were brought to the local hospital in waiting ambulances. The three Filipinos were meanwhile reported to be stable, the "Atlanta" was detained by the Maritime Authority until further investigation were completed. The ship had departed from the Aarhus Multiterminal on Jan 12 at 7.45 p.m. bound for Klaipeda. Danish report with photos: http://www.maritimedanmark.dk/?Id=17177
