Faulty lamp on wreck site endangers fishers
The wreck of the "Asian Forest" loaded with 14,500 metric tonnes of iron ore fines that is resting off the Mangalore coast, poses threat to fishermen as the buoy lamp kept near the wreck has stopped working. Fisherman complained that it was complicated to identify the area now and that several boats had been damaged after they hit the wreck. The Coast Guard would take up the issue with the government. The Department of Fisheries assured fishermen that the government would solve the problem at the earliest. A representative of a salvage company had approached the district administration for an NOC to remove the wreckage about six months ago. The vessel sank on July 18, 2009, the 18 crew members were rescued.
