Allision off Fujairah

The "Aseem" allided with the moored VLCC "Shinyo Ocean" on March 24, 2018, at 8 p.m. on Fujairah Anchorage on Fujairah Anchorage in the Gulf of Oman on its way to Qatargas’ Ras Laffan terminal. The "Shinyo Ocean" suffered a large breach at its portsie hull. The "Aseem" sustained severe bow damage and dropped anchor after the accident. The "Shinyo Ocean" which was breached above and beneath the waterline at port side was taken to another mooring position and remained stationary on March 26 in pos. 25° 12.88' N 056° 27.19' E.The "Aseem", sailing in ballast condition, had arrived from Dahej, initially bound for Qatar. The "Shinyo Ocean" had been anchored at Fujairah since March 16. The authorities of the United Arab Emirates were investigating how it was possible that the "Aseem" at a speed of 8 knots sailed straight into the side of the "Shinyo Ocean" after dark. The LNG tanker arrived at Ras Laffan Anchorage on April 9.
