Flooding of engine room
Early on Feb 19, 2022, the 'Ary Rongel-M 44' suffered a major damage when crossing the Drake Passage, which led to the flooding of the engine room and forced to issue a distress call. The Argentine Navy sent the ARA 'A-22 Estrecho de San Carlos', while Chile sent the research vessel 'AGS-61 Cabo de Hornos' and the ocean patrol vessel 'OPV-83 Marinero Fuentealva', which were operating near the Diego Ramírez Islands, about 100 kilomters southwest of Cape Horn. The civilian ships 'Ocean Victory' and 'Le Loreal' that were in the area also joined, while the polar ship 'H41 Almirante Maximiano' had problems on the way and could not participate in the rescue. Finally, the crew of the 'Ary Rongel' managed to solve the emergency with the support of Argentine and Chilean ships and went to Punta Arenas escorted by Chilean and Argentinean units, arriving on Feb 22 at the port.
