Fire off Blasket Islands

O Nov 6, 2024, at 130 a.m. the Coast Guard in Valentia, County Kerry. received a distress call from the 'Armaven Tres',, after a fire broke out in the engine room. The ship had lost power and was drifting in the Atlantic. The Valentia RNLI lifeboat, a Coast Guard helicopter and the patrol vessel 'LÉ James Joyce' of the Irish Navy were dispatched, to the vessel, which was drifting some 40 nautical miles off the Kerry coast. The rescue operation lasted for 15 hours with the blaze successfully fought and the trawler was taen in tow by the tug 'Nomad' (MMSI: 250000353). One crew member aboard the trawler received treatment for smoke inhalation.

Detention in Castletownbere

Mon May 24 18:54:15 CEST 2021 Timsen

The 'Armaven-Tres' was detained at the port of Castletownbere by the Irish Sea-Fisheries Protection Authority (SFPA) on May 14, 2021, and the master of the vessel was found guilty of under recording the monkfish catch and fined a total of ?9,000. The detention followed a routine inspection by Sea-Fisheries Protection Officers at Castletownbere. The chair of the SFPA in regarded its as a "serious offence" and failure to record catches "creates a clear risk to stock management". After paying the fine, the vessel left Castletownbere during the evening of the same day.
