Tuna ship sank after fire
A group of 25 fishermen was rescued after escaping a fire and the subsequent sinking of the 'Arkos 1 Chiapas' on Feb 21, 2025, while working off the Pacific coast of Chiapas. The fire started in the fishing net and spread rapidly to the stern, forcing the crew to abandon the ship using auxiliary boats and thus manage to get to safety before it sank. The 25 castaways were rescued by the Coast Guard aboard the 'Nair' and landed at the dock in Puerto Chiapas, where Naval Health personnel performed medical assessments and determined that they were all in good health. The fishing company in Chiapas has not yet disclosed the causes of the fire or the exact location of the incident.
Fire off Mexican coast
The "Arkos Ichiapas", 1157 gt (IMO: 7433816), suffered a fire in the paint and supplies store on May 4, 2016, while fishing 70 miles southwest of Puerto Chiapas in the Pacific. The fire was caused by a butane leak. The Mexican Navy patrol ship "Arm Romero PO-144" came to assist, a team boarded the trawler and extinguished the fire, no injures were reported.
