Medevac off Gran Canaria
The SAR helicopter Helimer 206 of Salvamento Marítimo medevaced a crew member of the 'Argo' on Sep 13, 2022, which was en route from Malaga to Paranam. He had suffered a heart attack when the ship was about 12 nautical miles north of the island of Gran Canaria. The Las Palmas Rescue Center received an alert requesting the urgent evacuation of the patient, so the Helimer 206 helicopter was mobilized, which hoisted the man and transferred him to the Hospital Universitario de Gran Canaria Doctor Negrín.
Ship suffered engine damage in Ravenna
On March 10, 2018, the "Sider Mariel" was allowed to leve the port of Ravenna and headed to Baris at 4.50 p.m., ETA March 12. The ship had been in port since Feb 28 and was detained after a loss of cooling water from the main engine while manoevering to leave the port with tug and pilot's assistance. The ship had arrived in Ravenna from Koper (Capodistria) with a cargo of steel. The Port Authority activated the emergency procedures. The tug immediately proceeded to moor the ship at the quay, remaining in constant contact with the Guard Officers. Thanks to the rapid and concerted intervention, the ship was safely berthed and therefore the normal conditions of the port were immediately restored.
Blackout in Strait of Messina
While crossing the Strait of Messina the "Sider Mariel" suffered a blackout on July 19, 2017 around 10.30 a.m. The ship had departed from the port of Civitavecchia and passed the Tremestieri area enroute to Ravenna, when a sudden blackout of the propulsion system left the ship adrift. The VTS Center in Messina was notified and warned all ships transiting the Straits of Messina. The Messina port captaincy coordinated the operation and sent the patrol boat "CP 852", the tug "Macistone" and a pilot to the vessel. At 11.30 a.m. the crew of the "Sider Mariel" managed to restore the propulsion and resumed the voyage, assisted by the port boat and the tug until the ship was at the Southern limit of the Strait of Messina. The "Sider Mariel" berthed in Ravenna on July 2 at 10 a.m. She left the port of Ravenna on July 29 at 5.30 p.m. after repairs and headed to Bari, ETA July 30, 9 p.m.
