Medevac in the Thames estuary
The Sheerness all weather lifeboat "George and Ivy Swanson" launched on Mar 19, 2013, at 2.44 p.m. for an emergency medical evacuation from the "Orient Trader" which was anchored in the Thames estuary 5.2 nautical miles from the station. The ship had called the Thames Coastguard for assistance after one of the crew fell ill. The Sheerness lifeboat arrived at the ship within 15 minutes, and the Russian seaman was transferred on board. On arrival back at the lifeboat station at 3.28 p.m. the casualty was met by Sheppey coastguard and transferred to the care of South East coast ambulance service.
