Medevac in Gulf of Mexico
The Coast Guard medevaced a man from the "Pine 5" approximately 20 miles south of Southwest Pass, on Apr 11, 2012, in the Gulf of Mexico. Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector New Orleans received a report at approximately 9:15 a.m., that a crewmember aboard the cargo ship was suffering from possible heart failure. Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans launched an MH-65C Dolphin helicopter and crew to the scene at approximately 10 a.m. The crew successfully hoisted the man from the vessel from a height of 200 feet and transfered him to awaiting emergency medical servces at West Jefferson Medical Center in Marrero. "Due to the training we do every day as America's maritime first responders, we were able to quickly respond and get him immediate medical attention," said Lt. Caitlin Mitchell-Wurster, Air Station New Orleans pilot.
