Stowaway on cargo ship

Tue Mar 27 11:40:50 CEST 2018 Timsen

A 19 year old stowaway was found aboard the "Apogee Spirit" which was loading malt at the Dreyfus terminal in Bahia Blanca where the ship docked on March 25, 2018. There was the possibilty of rejection, whichmeant he would be returning to his country by the same means of transport in which he arrived; the redirection, which meant he would be disembarked and sent to his country by another means of international transport, for example ny airplane; and finally he could stay in Argentine territory if there was a request for refuge by the immigrant, which in this case did not happen. Before the inquiry about who was responsible for custody expenses and air tickets it was clarified that all costs would have to be borne by the shipowner. The boy from Sierra Leone was in good health. He was found on the third day of the voyage and had hidden in the cargo hold 3 of the ship. It was suspected that he got aboard in the port of Freetown, where the ship had sailed on March 8, with the help of a crew member who allowed him to travel in moderately comfortable conditions during the first three days of the 14 to Bahia Blanca. The boy was currently guarded by the Prefectura Naval Argentina. The final decision on the status of the young person falls on the National Commission for Refugees.
