Container barge allided with Boulevard Bridge
On Oct 8, 2013, at 6 p.m. the "Animar" whilst coming from Antwerp with a cargo of empty containers allided with the Boulevard Bridge over the Brussels - Willebroek Canal. The impact pushed some containers out of their fixings, some were torn open, and a conductor beam of the bridge broke off and was hanging vertically between some containers. so that the ship was stuck underneath the bridge. The fire department welded off the obstruction so that the ship could be moored two hours after the accident. Engineers of Waterwegen and Zeekanaal were investigating the stability of the bridge. The traffic on the N 177 betweem Willebroek and Boomwas did not have to be interrupted. No one was injured in the allision. The maritime police arrived at the scene for an investigation.
