Divers suffered decompression sickness

Sun Jul 21 12:16:27 CEST 2019 Timsen

On July 19, 2019, around 2:25 p.m., the maritime prefecture of the Channel and the North Sea was alerted by the CROSS Gris-Nez after two divers of the "Anthias", which was located six miles off Dunkirk, had to cut their decompression stops and had symptoms suggesting a decompression sickness. The CROSS Gris-Nez immediately deployed a Dauphin helicopter of the French Navy base Le Touquet as well as the offshore patrol boat "Themis" in Cherbourg. A first medical assessment was established with the SAMU of Le Havre, which recommended a medical reception on arrival of the ship at the port and the evacuation of patients to a hospital equipped with a hyperbaric chamber. At 3 p.m. the "Anthias" arrived at the port of Dunkirk with the two divers on board, whowere immediately supported by teams of the Departmental Operational Fire and Rescue Center (CODIS) and a doctor of the SMUR 59. At 4 p.m., they were taken aboard the Dauphin helicopter, which took off at 4.20 pm towards the Lille hospital where they arrived at 4.40 p.m.
