ANNE CARLANDER 7233266
The "Anna Carlander" together with a barge of around 300 ft ran aground at Yeomalt Point Drive, a end road on the eastern shore of Bainbridge Island, just before dawn Sep 10. The tug and its cargo — a barge full of scrap metal — ran aground underway to Tacoma. The tug “Anne Carlander” usually hauls scrap metal between Tacoma and British Columbia. The barge, carrying what looked like crushed cars stacked about six feet high, was beached along side the tug. Both vessels were 30 feet from a fire pit. The United States Coast Guard is investigating how the tug ran aground. The ship’s crew was interviewed in Tacoma. The tug hit the beach near the 7700 block of Yeomalt Point Drive around 5:20 a.m. at low tide. A little more than an hour later the rising tide and another tug helped float the vessel and barge free. Damage appeared minimal, likely because the beach area where the tug and barge ran aground is gravel.
