Neckar traffic interrupted due to ship fire
On June 15, 2012, at 1.30 p.m. a fire broke out in the engine room of the "Anna Krieger" which was downstream bound on the Neckar near Pleutersbach with a cargo of scrap metal. The crew was able to tackle the fire after several failed attempts to get it extinguished. The master and his crew of three suffered smoke inhalation during their struggle. The captain ran his ship which had lost steering on the shore. A workboat of the river authority pushed it further onto the embankment. The crew was medically treated in a hospital in Eberbacher. The fire brigades from Eberbach and Hirschhorn were on scene with 45 men, as well as the German Life Saving Society (DLRG) from Eberbach and Hirschhorn with 20 men and two boats. Also the fire brigade Heidelberg attended with four divers. Ship traffic on the Neckar had to be interrupted. It was planned to tow the casualty into the port of Eberbach within the next hours.
